* The following is regarding Digicel - http://www.digicelgroup.com/group/ according to a cisco press release: http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2007/prod_072607b.html: "Digicel, the fastest-growing cellular provider in the Caribbean and a new entrant into the Central American market" (see bottom of this article for more...) From: [digicelgroup.com] Sent: Monday, December 10, 2007 Subject: RE: International GSM/HSDPA cellular data service In regards to obtaining prepaid sims to utilize the service requested, you must have an identification card issued in Trinidad and Tobago or your passport. These are prepaid sims therefore any contact in Trinidad and Tobago can purchase and deliver them for you, verification to make changes or to gain information on prepaid sims are located in the sim package given with sim card purchased. As stated the service is pre activated and you will need to purchase top up cards (buy credit) for each sim for the service to be operational. _____ From: [digigelgroup.com] Sent: Monday, 10 December 2007 Subject: RE: International GSM/HSDPA cellular data service You will need to get prepaid SIMs to facilitate what you are looking for. All our prepaid SIMs come with GPRS services, but you will need to configure your device to use our web APN setting. Once you have the SIMs ready for service the APN is: web.digiceltt.com. There is no username or password. Just to set the correct expectations here are a few things you should know: 1. Our rates for using GPRS web services on our network in Trinidad and across the Caribbean on Digicel's network is $0.02/kb TTD ($0.0032/kb USD). If you roam on AT&T's network with our SIMs you will pay roaming charges of $0.0063/kb USD 2. We have EDGE services in Trinidad which can typically deliver about 126kb/s although we cannot guarantee this. Other islands will most likely deliver standard GPRS coverage at about 56kb/s - again I cannot guarantee this. 3. We have coverage at most of the outskirts of Trinidad and Tobago but we cannot guarantee you will have coverage at all ports in other islands 4. As Digicel adds more territories and islands you will also benefit from the footprint we have over the Caribbean (largest of any mobile provider) 5. You will only be able to top up (buy credit) your prepaid account in the island of Trinidad at top up retailers. At the moment you cannot purchase top up in other Digicel islands for prepaid services. 6. You will have will have GPRS roaming coverage in the following islands (again, we cannot guarantee you will have coverage at all your ports): Operation Area Frequency Jamaica 900 (1800 Kingston) MHz Anguilla 900/1900 MHz Antigua & Barbuda 850/1900 MHz Aruba 900/1900 MHz Barbados 900/1800/1900 MHz Bermuda 1900 MHz Bonaire 900/1800 MHz Cayman Islands 850/900/1800/1900 MHz Curacao 900/1800 MHz Dominica 900/1900 MHz Grenada 900/1800/1900 MHz Guyana 900 MHz Haiti 1800 MHz Samoa 900 MHz St Lucia 900/1800/1900 MHz St Kitts & Nevis 900/1800/1900 MHz St Vincent 900/1800/1900 MHz Trinidad & Tobago 850/1900 MHz Turks & Caicos 900/1900 MHz _____________________________________ DigicelT Trinidad & Tobago ***** Alan Spicer's Note: if you see the variation in frequencies available in the different areas in this information, you will understand why I recommend the Ericsson W25 for Voice and Internet Cellular. A US Only (850/1900Mhz) Cellular/Internet Terminal would not work in some of these areas. The Ericsson W25 will handle all the frequencies mentioned. It will also handle GPRS, EDGE, and where available 3G UMTS HSDPA high speed Internet. It looks like there might not be much if any of the higher speed 3G in the Carribean yet. But at least you will be capable of using what they do have. And when you get somewhere where there is high speed, you'll be good to go. See http://www.marinetelecom.net/Ericsson_W25/ * Additional information from digicelgroup.com web site: See the page: http://www.digicelgroup.com/group/our_locations.php for a markets/locations map. http://www.digicelgroup.com/group/roaming.php Roaming Whether you are traveling to or from the Caribbean, Digicel offers the best coverage thanks to the largest number of signed commercial roaming agreements amongst its competition: more than 245 worldwide partners, in 130 countries around the world. As well as GSM services, Digicel is the only operator in the region to also offer services to international CDMA customers traveling in the Caribbean. For those who require mobile data services like e-mail, Digicel was the first operator in its markets to launch GPRS services. The days of returning from business trips to an overflowing inbox are almost long-forgotten. Users can now either carry mobile phones with data access or they can carry their laptop with a GPRS card plugged into it and access the Internet at speeds from 35-45 kilobits per second. And with a recent partnership with Vodafone, Digicel has strengthened its capacity to offer even wider roaming services as Vodafone and Digicel have become preferred roaming partners offering customers a seamless world-class mobile experience whilst they travel on each others' network. With the Digicel Vodafone partnership, Digicel offers new roaming capabilities across Digicel's markets in the Caribbean and Bermuda and Vodafone's global network. The agreement also extends to Digicel's sister operation in Samoa. -------------- * It seems very difficult from the Internet to find specific information about Digicel plans. There is the main web site, which that person on my article had his email domain, ... I added that web site and some more information to the top and bottom of my article. They seem to want you to call by telephone to set anything up. This is the contact information from the web site: http://www.digicelgroup.com/group/our_locations.php Digicel French West Indies For more D’information on our products and services, please telephone to the 0810.635.635 (price of a local call from a station fixes) where to write with: Digicel French West Indies Guyana Oasis – Quartier Drink Red 97224 DUCOS * They seem to be indicating roaming throughout their entire carribean areas. But I haven't found anything about non-roaming "native" service.
